Derby's GP Crisis
Patients in Derby are having to wait weeks to see a GP, as the Conservative NHS crisis deepens.
New figures show there are now more than 2,124 patients for every GP in Derby - one of the worst in the country for GP numbers.
Lucy Care and the Liberal Democrats are calling for urgent action to fix the problem.
The Liberal Democrat GP plan would guarantee people can see a doctor quickly. And we’d introduce a new 24/7 hotline so people could book an appointment anytime, rather than have to wait in a long queue every morning hoping to get through. Learn more about our GP plan.
Number of GPs falling, number of patients per GP rising
NHS figures which show that the number of GPs has fallen by over 1,000 since the Conservatives pledged to recruit 6,000 more GPs in 2019, Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:
“With the number of GPs continuing to plummet, it shows Ministers’ total disregard for the needs of patients.
“The truth is plain and simple: the Conservatives have broken their promise to hire more GPs.
"In contrast by pledging to recruit and retain more GPs, the Liberal Democrats have set out a clear plan to ensure everyone can see their doctor when they need to."
More doctors (GPs) needed for Derby
Despite land being set aside in planning agreements for new doctors surgeries, these have not yet been built. Sign our petition to call on Derby's integrated care system (ICS) to build and open new GP (doctors) surgeries and find the GPs for it.
