Liberal Democrats launch Local Elections 2022 campaign with British Sign Language video

The Derby Liberal Democrats have released this morning a video aimed at communicating to the deaf community information about this years local elections in a new and unique way. Working with Communication Unlimited here in Derby a video complete with BSL sign language and subtitles has been professionally produced for their campaign. The Liberal Democrats have been pushing for BSL to be widely recognised as a language in the UK for around 20 years.

The innovative idea came from one of the candidates who is standing in Mickleover, Derby. Nick Northover who has been involved with the deaf community and has attained level 1 BSL himself. Nick says "Accessibility is something that is very important to me and it reinforces the position we in the Liberal Democrats continue to have. It's something that I understand has not been done before, and I strongly feel it is important to ensure important information is delivered in a way that all our residents can access to help them make important choices."

The video gives information in BSL and subtitles about the local election and names of people standing in areas around Derby. The local election is being held 5th May. To find out more, visit our dedicated Local Elections 2022 page.
