Lib Dem Cllr Danielle Lind proposed an amendment to the Conservative-led council's budget. The amendment, to put more funding into Special Educational Needs and Disability to improve the processes and systems to improve the outcomes for young people, was passed by the Full Council at the latest meeting.

As a result of Cllr Lind's amendment being passed, an additional £172,000 in funding will be made available to enable joined up working and better serve people's needs.

Cllr Danielle Lind said "This is great news for Derby. For far too long the service that the local area provides for Children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities has not been up to scratch. As a result of the Ofsted and CQC inspection last summer, the local area was required to produce a written Statement of Action.

"The extra funding we have secured through our Lib Dem amendment to the budget will support the changes required within the written Statement of Action that was developed jointly with parents, carers, staff and partners.

"This will lay the foundation needed to build a properly functioning service for some of the most vulnerable children and young people in Derby City."
