Improving travel in Littleover

January 3, 2018 12:33 PM

We recently mentioned that each year each ward is allowed to suggest a couple of highways improvements for its area. Thank you to everyone who has sent in their thoughts.

Councillor Mike Carr said "Lots of people have told us of places where parked cars are making travel difficult or dangerous. These include at the top of Pastures Hill and the top of Chain Lane, around junctions on Old Hall Road and on Uttoxeter New Road and Kingsway. We have therefore asked if these can be dealt with as our number one priority."

Other possible priorities include a pedestrian crossing on Rykneld Road near the Nuffield Hospital, various footway and carriageway repairs, working with the County Council on the out-of-town end of Rykneld Road and reviewing the residents-only parking scheme. Local councillors are waiting for a response back from the highways team on these.

Highway action in Littleover includes:

Bus stops are being improved to make access easier on Normanton Lane, Chain Lane and (here) Rykneld Road.

15 Closes along paths in Heatherton are going to get signs to make it easier for people to know where they are. Lucy is on Appledown Way.

This year the design will be done to improve the path from The Hollow to Hollowood Avenue. Then, next year, a lowered kerb will be provided, and the barriers improved.

Some schemes take years to plan or fund. Please share your ideas so they can be considered soon.
