Meet our candidate for Derby North, Lucy Care

Liberal Democrat Candidate for Derby North Lucy CareI take my role as a city councillor very seriously. It is an honour, and a responsibility, and I do it to the best of my ability. I believe in democracy, and encourage others to take part too.

But I'm not primarily a politician. My first career was as a professional engineer. This is still more part of who I am than politics. Parliament needs people with real life experience.

If all was well in the world, I'd not be bringing my chartered engineering skills to politics. Indeed, I'd likely earn many times more as an engineer than as a councillor, and maybe more than I'll get as an MP.

So I'm not standing for money, for prestige or for personal ambition. I'm standing because I believe that the world could be a better place. And I believe that the Liberal Democrats have the vision and policies for that better world.

Liberal Democrat policies are for now and for the long term.

Policies are developed by members, based on evidence. They don't change when the leader changes - as we see too often with other parties.
