Outrage as Derby North’s Conservative MP Votes Against Law Making Homes Fit To Live In

Derby residents were furious to learn that their local Conservative MP voted against making sure rented homes are fit to be lived in.

MPs were recently asked to vote on a bill requiring rogue landlords to fix run down houses they rent out. Yet many Conservatives - including our MP - joined forces to block it.

Councillor Hilary Jones said, "The Conservatives are letting people down yet again. More protection is needed against the bad landlords who do not provide the right level of decency for renters - from inadequate heating to leaving the house to go to rack and ruin.

"This vote once again shows that the Conservatives only care about home ownership. They have abandoned renters who can either not afford a mortgage or would prefer to rent"

"Those who rent should not be handicapped by this choice. That is why I am calling for the city council to enforce the laws that already exist to stamp out rogue landlords."
