Urgent Action taken on A38 site access

December 23, 2010 10:59 AM

The three local Councillors became aware on Wednesday 15th December about the possibility of travellers moving onto the land adjacent to the A38 behind a row of houses along Haven Baulk Lane and visited the site on Thursday and Friday.

Since then they have been identifying what action can be taken to prevent the site being occupied.

Individuals unknown have constructed an access road to the site and had also removed a number of trees on the embankment along the A38 providing access to the land at that point.

Latest Position:

Cllrs Carr and Allen have been on site most of this morning.

We have now ascertained that the strip of land concerned is owned by the Highways Agency and permission has NOT been granted to build the access road. A-one+ working on behalf of the Highways Agency today, Wednesday 22nd December:

  • Have removed the gates that have been erected
  • Will install an obstruction to prevent access to the site
  • Will erect a sign indicating that access to the site is prohibited and anyone attempting to do so will be prosecuted.

Blocked access roadResidents are thanked for their swift assistance in helping us to sort this problem. Action is ongoing to identify who has been attempting to use the site.

We ask that residents remain vigilant and to report to the local police any suspicious behaviour near the site. We thank the staff of the Highways Agency and A-one+ who have provided a swift and decisive response.
