Liberal Democrats in Abbey Ward have selected Ajit Atwal to be their candidate in May's council elections. Ajit has lived in Abbey ward, on Burton Road, his whole life.

Ajit has been involved in many local campaigns including campaigning for safer roads, improvements at the crossing to the Kingsway Retail Park, and supporting local sports clubs.

Ajit said "I've lived in this area my whole life and I'm passionate about working with local people to make things better.

"Working with my Lib Dem colleagues, Cllr David Batey and Cllr Bryan Lowe we've managed to make some real improvements to our area, like getting acton from the council to remark one of the local football pitches in Stockbrook."

Cllr Lucy Care, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Derby North, who has been campaigning with Ajit said, "Ajit is a fantastic campaigner in Abbey ward. He is already delivering for local people. If he is elected a councillor in May he will be able to do even more good work for the local community."

Cllr Hilary Jones leader of Derby City Council said "Ajit will make an excellent addition to our team on the council. Ajit lives in Abbey ward, has drive, determination and a burning desire to serve the community."
