Liberal Democrat members in Allestree have selected Deena Smith to stand as their candidate in the Allestree by-election.

Deena lives in the heart of Allestree in Cavendish Avenue. She is a retired nurse having worked for many years at Derbyshire Childrens' Hospital.

After her selection Deena Smith said "I am delighted to have the chance to stand for Allestree. Our area needs a councillor who lives in the ward, and who is committed to tackling the issues that concern people in Allestree.

"Campaigning for improved parking for local residents, more facilities for younger and older people and dealing with anti-social behaviour are my top priorities."

Cllr Hilary Jones Liberal Democrat leader of Derby City Council said "I look forward to working with Deena. She will make a great councillor for Allestree. She lives in Allestree, she knows the issues that concern local people. Deena will be a real champion for the people of Allestree."
