Derby Liberal Democrat Councillors are campaigning to save a popular Derby Care Home. The Lib Dems have "called in" the Labour led council's decision to close Bramblebrook Care Home.

Derby Council's Labour led Cabinet voted to close the Bramblebrook Care Home on Tuesday. The Call-in will see Labour Councillors who decided to close the home challenged over their decision.

Local Liberal Democrat Councillor Les Allen said "There is no case for closing Bramblebrook. The Labour Councillors who voted to close the Home haven't got a leg to stand on. Liberal Democrat Councillors will use the call-in to expose the weakness in Labour's case.

"The argument for keeping Bramblebrook is overwhelming. Residents of the Home are against closing it, a Council Commission has opposed the closure, over 4,000 people have signed a petition opposing the closure and the full council voted against closure at the last meeting.

"Derby needs a high quality care home like Bramblebrook it would be a tragedy if it were to be closed.

"The call in gives us Liberal Democrats a chance to hold Labour to account for their disastrous decision to close Bramblebrook. By revealing the weakness of their case we hope to be able to force them to do a u-turn and drop their plans to close the Home."
