Local Liberal Democrats are fighting plans to axe six more of Derby's Post Offices

Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Cllr Lucy Care has pledged to fight to stop plans to close six of Derby's remaining Post Offices.

This follows an announcement today that Post Office Ltd are consulting on closing Derby's; Abbey Street, Ashbourne Road, Mansfield Road, St Thomas Road, Wilmorton and Shelton Lock Post Offices.

Cllr Care said "Just a few years ago the government allowed sixteen of Derby's Post Offices to close. Now there are plans to close another six. This has to stop.

"Many of the people using these Post Offices will already have had their local one closed. Closing a Post Office makes it harder for other local shops to survive and forces people to travel further.

"The government gave some protection to rural Post Offices, but urban ones matter too. I will be fighting these closures tooth and nail.

"Derby's Post Office network is being destroyed. Unless local people take a stand we won't have many Post Offices left. I hope everyone who is concerned will get in touch with Post Office Ltd. The more people who make their views known to the Post Office the greater the chance we have of stopping the closure plans."

People can email their views to the Post Office at network.change@postoffice.co.uk or post them to; Network Change Programme Officer, Post Office Ltd, Freepost, Network Change.
