A Liberal Democrat alternative for Derby: Reinstate Area Panel Money

March 1, 2006 5:52 PM

At today's budget meeting Derby's Liberal Democrat Councillors will call on the Labour Council to reinstate £25,000 in grants which the council is planning to remove from the city's Area Panels.

Each part of Derby has an Area Panel. The Area Panels have budgets which they can allocate in grants to local community groups. Under a Labour proposal each of the five area panels will lose £5,000 of budget a 20% cut.

Lib Dem Cllr Maggie Hird said "The Labour council's plan will take money away from local community groups. It will be particularly bad for areas like Mickloever, Littleover and Darley which do not get the big grants that other parts of the city get."

The £25,000 to reinstate the Area panel money will come from the £2,650,000 Area and Neighbourhood programme.
