Derby Liberal Democrats hold successful AGM

Derby City Liberal Democrats recently held their Annual General Meeting. The packed meeting at the Voicebox on Forman Street, elected the people who will run the party for the next year.

The new Executive of Derby City Liberal Democrats consist of Tony Withers who was elected Chair of the local party. Chris Goacher was elected Vice-Chair, John-Paul Keane Secretary and Simon King Treasurer.

Newly elected Chair, Tony Withers said "I am extremely glad to become Chair of Derby Liberal Democrats at this time. We secured a huge swing of 12% in Derby South at the General Election. This was one of the biggest swings to the Lib Dems in the country. We finished 2nd in a Derby seat for the first time at a General Election since 1922. We are the main opposition to Labour on the Council. The future is extremely bright for the Lib Dems in Derby"

Recently elected leader of Derby Liberal Democrat Councillors Hilary Jones said; "The future is positive for us in Derby. We have had more people wanting to be officers of the local party than any year before. We also have more people applying to be council candidates than ever before. The Lib Dems are the growing party in Derby. Next year I am sure we will see many of these new candidates elected as hard-working Councillors for their areas."
